Stone Walls For Your Landscape

Slate Light Column – Shepherd Stoneworks

A natural stone retaining wall can be a true work of art and can add value to your home. It’s a satisfying addition to a well-designed landscape but it also functions well over time, resisting the damage caused by groundwater in lesser walls.

Our dry-stacked stone walls are built with the proper construction technique often skipped over by a lot of landscape builders: the wall should be thick enough for its height and should not be backfilled with crushed rock.  Instead, air spaces within the stonework are packed with small stone scraps and chips.  These not only fill in the voids, they filter out sediment that would otherwise undermine the stability of the stones.
