Wilkeson Flagstone Walkway – Paving with Local Stone

Wilkeson Flagstone Entryway – Shepherd Stoneworks

This is an entryway that we overhauled on Capitol Hill in Seattle.  We used Wilkeson Flagstone, which is now only sold straight from the quarry in Wilkeson, WA, and the pieces were custom-sawed for this project.  Many old building facades and cobblestone streets in Seattle were made of this material, as was the rotunda at the Capital Building in Olympia.

Perhaps you like the look of grouted flagstone?  It is a nice look, but keep in mind that mortar requires a slab underneath.  Don’t try to tuck-point your sand-set patio, or the grout will crack and separate.   And grouting takes a long time, so you don’t want that to go to waste!
